Ergonomic Workstation Tip of the Month

Why Customer Feedback is Important to Us and You

The number of ergonomic products has increased enormously in the last few years and continues to grow. Obviously, with new products being launched at such a rapid pace, it can be difficult to keep up with the latest developments, including good analyses of these products from the customer's perspective. This is why it is so important for those who provide these products to the public to gain useful knowledge about how and when these products should be used and who they would benefit the most. Invariably, it is the experiences of customers which provide some of the best information we have about the effectiveness of each of these products. Customer feedback, in other words, is an essential part of the process of determining which products should be recommended to the public and which should not in any particular set of circumstances.

With an established line of products, the effectiveness of newer models can often be reasonably determined ahead of time to some extent. Usually, newer models have improvements that take into account feedback from previous models, and so are quite likely to have a higher success rate in terms of customer satisfaction. It is easier to recommend such products, because they have already gone through a 'trial and error' process through customer feedback and responses, thus ensuring a reliable basis for customer's expectations to be fulfilled.

Newer products, however, do not ordinarily have an established customer base that potential customers can draw upon in order to better estimate their effectiveness or appropriateness. In these cases, parallel features in other, established products can be used as a basis for recommending them, though this is not as reliable and does have its pitfalls. Newer products, even if they resemble established products, have many other variables that may diminish or somehow alter their anticipated benefits or effectiveness. Again, customer feedback is essential to get a more accurate picture of a product's advantages and disadvantages over its competition. Some manufacturers try to fill in this void for newer and original designs by incorporating scientific studies to back up their claims about the benefits of this or that product. But preliminary studies also need to be supplemented over time by real users' experiences of the product. Often times the issues are not just ergonomic but technical, too. If a particular mouse, for example, is prone to electronic defects, the mouse, though designed well, will be of little benefit to its user.

It is a good idea, then, to ask manufacturers or their distributors about what kind of responses they have received about their products. Satisfied customers like to offer praise for products that meet or exceed their expectations, whereas dissatisfied customers like to offer criticism when those same expectations are not met. In either case, you, the potential customer, can therefore better determine for yourself whether any particular product has a likelihood to succeed in your case or not. And if you do decide to go ahead with a purchase, your own feedback will be an important part of the process used to improve or correct any known defect or deficiencies with that product. Believe it or not, many manufacturers do want this kind of feedback so that they can make good products even better.

We at ErgoCanada would love to hear from you about any of our products. Tell us what you like and dislike about any particular product, what works and does not work for you, or anything else you wish to comment about. Any feedback you provide us will go to our product specialists and help improve our ability to analyze and recommend these products to all future customers.

Featured New Product and Promo of the Month

The Goldtouch Mouse from Goldtouch

Goldtouch Mouse

The redesigned Goldtouch Mouse is based on the shape of the original Goldtouch Mouse, and maintains a similar hand position (24° reduction in pronation) as the original. The concave thumb area is rubberized to provide superior grip and provides superior control while accommodating a wide range of hand sizes. The buttons are oversized to provide more muscle options for clicking actions. As this mouse's design is not a radical departure from 'conventional' mice, the learning curve is minimized. Available in a left and right handed version (both are corded).

Regular Price: $75.00

Special Pre-Order Price: $65.00
