The inner dial or "shuttle" has a convenient dimple for fingertip control and rotates smoothly and continuously through 360°, with distinct tactile detents. The outer black ring or "jog" is rubberized and spring-loaded. It facilitates fast forward and rewind, and returns to centre immediately upon release. Both the jog and shuttle can be custom configured for many other purposes such as scrolling, volume control, sequencing, even mouse clicks.

There are two models of the USB version. The XD-293 come with pre-printed legends for commonly assigned tasks (on the bottom of the plastic keycaps), but these legends can be covered with the included blank labels to allow you to customize as needed. The XD-03 has blank plastic keycaps (i.e. nothing initially pre-printed on the units).

The Advantage Pro was the top-of-the-line model of the first generation of the line of Contoured line of keyboards from Kinesis. Its sleek modern appearance was the result of a double coating of protective clear gloss on top of a metallic silver coating. 'Under the hood' it featured a second memory chip which permitted longer macros and a hidden memory locking switch to prevent accidental or unauthorized programming changes. An option to bundle the Single Action Footswitch accessory at a discounted price was also available.

However, as with all technology, as new operating systems arrived it was found that there were a potential issues with USB 3.0 on Windows 7/8/10 and the venerable Advantage PRO Contoured Keyboard was retired. It was succeed by the second generation Advantage2 Contoured Keyboard and the powerful fully separated Advantage360 and Advantage360 PRO Contoured Keyboards.
