The Apical Dental Chair with Adjustable Support from Score is designed to provide advanced ergonomic posture for dental practitioners. It departs from traditional flat seats by incorporating concepts generally only seen in full saddle-style seating. By combining features of both the Apical becomes a very suitable option for practitioners who may not be comfortable shifting to a full “saddle” solution but who want to benefit from the improved ergonomic seating position that a saddle seat can offer.
At first glance the Apical appears very similar to a traditional flat seat but upon closer examination it becomes evident that the seat is modified. First of all, unlike round seats, the rear of the Apical is quite broad (16.5”) to provide support to the sitz bones. The seat then gently rounds towards the narrower front that features a very slightly raised “pommel” with slight “reliefs” where the thighs clear the front. The seat is 13.5” deep, meaning that while the weight is well-supported at the sitz bones, the thighs remain primarily clear of the seat to allow ease of movement when repositioning for the optimal working position.

The Apical is oriented with a fixed forward tilt of approximately 10°. The cushion is approximately 3” thick below the sitz bones, tapering to a lesser degree at the front of the seat where less padding is required. This tilt and the somewhat saddle-like seat shape work together to rotate the pelvis forward, assisting in restoring the natural S-curve of the spine. At the same time it reduces the abrupt bend in the lower lumbar region, reducing the high stress that a traditional flat seat places on the lower back. The combination of tilt, seat design that encourages a straddle-stance that places the knees to the sides, and the more upright posture let the clinician move closer to their client, greatly reducing the high-stress forward-leaning posture that a traditional seat requires. The Kanewell Twin Compact Saddle Chair with Articulating Backrest was developed to provide those of smaller or more slender build with a seating option better suited to their needs. This saddle stool features a comfortable split-saddle seat with the added benefit of splay and tilt adjustment for a personalized fit. For situations where a backrest may be desired* this stool is also equipped with a generously padded height- and angle-adjustable backrest that can also tilt to align to the back. The primary design is very similar to other Kanewell Twin Saddle models, with the saddle offering the same amount of cushioning and the same degree of splay at the front. However, because this seat is specifically intended for those of smaller build, the seat halves do not separate at the rear as on the full-size Kanewell Twin saddles, but rather pivot from a single point at the rear of the saddle to achieve the outward splay at the front. In addition to the splay feature the saddle also features the same locking tilt that permits individuals to position the seat at an angle that is most suitable for their needs or comfort.

Saddle seats are well-suited for use in active office environments, at raised counters, elevated workstations, or anywhere there is a need to be able to move into close proximity to the working area—such as dental, medical, or veterinary practices. The upright posture provided by the saddle-seating encourages better back posture, provides a much greater range of movement than that available from traditional seats, and enables virtually effortless movement about a workspace. The split-saddle is designed to reduce pressure points and improve airflow for a cooler and more comfortable experience, especially during longer periods of concentrated work. In order to meet the needs of those of smaller build the saddle on the Kanewell Twin Compact Saddle Chair with Articulating Backrest is both narrower and shallower than the standard seat (see comparison here). Upholstered in high grade Vinyl that is waterproof and resistant to most common cleaners and disinfectant formulations, the Kanewell Twin Compact seats are available in two height ranges to accommodate individuals of varying heights. Large diameter (60 mm) casters offer smooth movement throughout the workspace. Optional accessories include a footring to provide stability and comfort support when the chair is elevated (the height of the footring is adjustable independently of the height of the chair) and fixed glides as an alternative to the casters.

* Note: Saddle seats are not typically promoted with back rests as the saddle stance naturally encourages better back posture. The addition of a back may also limit movement and reduce the ergonomic benefit of a saddle-style seat, as there can be a tendency to relax against the back, reducing the level of core muscle engagement. It is also more difficult to mount and dismount from a saddle when a backrest is present. If a backrest is not specifically needed the Kanewell Twin Compact Adjustable Saddle Seat is available as a non-backrest version.

The Salli Sway is a more economical model of the premium Salli Swing model, the most freely moving split saddle seat chair offered on the market today. The Sway differs only in that it has a lighter seat frame, standard (as compared to premium) components, and only one color option.

The rocking mechanism enables the seat to freely and continuously tilt or 'rock' on the left-right and front-back axis (and all angles in combination) in response to the movements of the user without any adjustments to the chair. This stimulates muscles in the abdominal and pelvic area, realizing benefits for the user similar to those which can be obtained through use of an exercise ball. It also adds to the mobility and metabolism of the lower back while still getting appropriate support from the split saddle seat design and maintaining the natural curvature of the spine. The width of the two halves of the saddle seat are fixed and cannot adjust but the design accommodates the body types of most individuals. If an individual has very muscular or thick thighs, or minimal soft tissue (i.e. slight frame and below average weight), they may want to consider the Salli SwingFit.

Height adjustment of the gas spring lift is accomplished through a standard hand-controlled height adjustment lever. Available in Short (4'0" to 5'2") or Medium (5'1" to 5'11") only. The 5-star base and lift are in an attractive chrome finish. The total weight of the chair is 10 kg (22 lb), the seat is 7.5 kg (16.5 lb) and is available in either black leather or black polyurethane (synthetic leather).

The Salli Strong is a beefed-up version (for heavier individuals up to 330 lbs) of the the Salli Tilting Twin chair. There is a lever to provide adjustment allowing the split saddle seat to be adjusted on the front-back axis, and upon releasing the lever the chair will lock in that position. This makes it possible for the user to adjust the position of the seat to the optimal angle and make micro-adjustments over time as needed, and receive the appropriate orthopedic support from the split saddle seat design. The width of the two halves of the saddle seat is fixed and cannot adjust. A standard hand-controlled height adjustment lever for adjustment of the gas spring lift accommodates most adults. Available lift sizes and the corresponding heights they accommodate are as follows: Medium fits 5'1" to 6'1" (Seat height 22.5"-30") and Tall fits 5'8" and over (Seat height 25"-35"). The oversized (60 cm) 5-star base and lift are available by default in an attractive chrome finish. The total weight of the chair is 13 kg (28.6 lb), including the 9 kg (19.8 lb) seat, and is currently only stocked in a black leather.
