The Freestyle2 is the 'next generation' of the well-known Kinesis Freestyle line of keyboards. All the ergonomic benefits afforded by the original Freestyle have been retained, including the convertible, modular design and capacity for separation of the keyboard modules. The technology of the keyboard is also the same, as it is still driverless (Plug and Play) and includes an embedded numeric keypad.
The primary improvements of the Freestyle2 over the original Freestyle include:
A dramatically thinner profile than the current Freestyle Solo, greatly improving the portability of the keyboard
Noticeably quieter keying action, i.e. keyswitch is much quieter when pressed.
Slight layout changes including swapping locations of the FN and Application key to reduce accidental Fn events, and replacing the Search Hot Key with Undo
Addition of embedded volume controls and calculator key.
Easier to use slide release button to simplify pivot tether removal.
Linking cable between the keyboard modules is approximately an inch longer allowing up 9" of separation.
The Freestyle2 is fully compatible with the original V3 Accessory Kit (AC730-BLK) and Ascent Accessory Kit (AC740-BLK) accessories.
The original VIP Accessory Kit (AC720-BLK) is not compatible with the Freestyle2. Kinesis has released a new accessory, the VIP3 Accessory Kit (AC820-BLK), which now offers tenting angles of 5° (not previously available on the VIP), 10° and 15° with an integrated padded palm support.
