Compact Keyboard (SMK85, SMK85U-SIL-SM) by DSI with Embedded Numeric Keypad - Detailed Specification Sheet

Compact Keyboard (SMK-85) with embedded numeric keypad

Click here or on picture above to enlarge.

A compact keyboard which sacrifices nothing - all the keys are full - size, the shift, enter and backspace are triple width and the tab is double width. Dedicated full size windows keys are also included.   A compact keyboard without a compact feel.

This keyboard has a full 104 key layout with an embedded numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard. The Strongman mechanical keyswitches are high quality and offer a light tactile, audible touch which provides a consistent and comfortable feel. All the keys are full size, and the Enter has the familiar large 'L' shape.  In addition, unlike many compact keyboards, the keys are full-travel (i.e. the distance the key goes 'down' when you press it) - many compact keyboards have a reduced key travel distance.

This keyboard used to be available with an ALPS Tactile Switch which was identical except that it featured slightly quieter mechanical keyswitches (i.e. a less audible click), with the same amount of actuation force.

Compatibility

Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP/VISTA.

Summary of How the Embedded Numeric Keypad Functions

Legending: The numeric keypad and the navigation keys are both legended on the top of the keycaps. The numeric legends are blue (in the right hand top corners of the keycaps) and the navigation keys are grey and are on the bottom of the keycap.

To Activate the Numeric Keypad:

Press and release the Num Lock key once (i.e. a toggle). The green light at the top right hand corner of the keyboard labeled Num will light up (indicating the numeric keyboard is active).
To Deactivate the Numeric Keypad: Press and release the Num Lock key once (i.e. a toggle). The green light at the top right hand corner of the keyboard labeled Num will turn off.
With NumLock On: Keypad will generate numbers as indicated.
With NumLock Off: Most computers will boot up with Num Lock off. In this case, the numeric keypad will perform its normal keyboarding functions. When the Num Lock is off, the Navigation keys may be accessed by holding down the Fn key.
