The Sit-Stand SmartMat from OIC Innovations offers comfortable cushioning for standing while very effectively addressing the issue of how to safely move the mat out of the way when transitioning to a seated position. Most effective anti-fatigue mats generally consist of heavy rubber or dense foam that is truly suited to standing and are thus too soft for a chair to roll over since the wheels on most office chairs tend to sink into the mat and lock up. These mats usually require workers to reach down and move the mat by hand, bending and twisting at the waist and hips to do so. For those with pre-existing back problems, who may well have chosen to stand while working to address those very problems, this type of motion raises serious concerns.
The Sit-Stand SmartMat addresses this injury risk by transferring mat repositioning to the feet and eliminating both bending and twisting. By pressing down lightly with one foot on the Activation Pad located at the front of the Sit-Stand SmartMat, the non-slip backing lifts free of the floor, permitting the mat to be easily slid - from a standing position. Those who switch frequently between seated and standing work positions, or who need to reposition the mat often, will find this ease of transition a vast improvement over traditional anti-fatigue mats.
The core of the SmartMat is a lightweight 5/8" rubber compound which provides a comfortable degree of cushioning. The cushioning effect of the core is enhanced by the woven fibre carpet surface. Unlike more common rubber or foam mats, the fibre cover provides breathability, offering a comfortable surface should workers choose to stand without footwear. The Sit-Stand Smart Mat also includes a Foot Wedge that can be used for extra cushioning or to encourage movement of the feet by creating a multilevel surface. It can be placed anywhere across the mat surface and can be easily repositioned with the feet.
"Surface Specific" SmartMat models are available in both Classic Grey and Charcoal Black for either hard floor or carpeted surfaces.
Reduces Fatigue - An anti-fatigue mat can significantly reduce fatigue when standing by providing a flexible surface that encourages regular flexing of the joints and muscles in the feet and lower legs. This can lead to an increase in overall energy levels and greater productivity.
Reduces Risk of Lower Limb Issues - Extended standing on hard surfaces can result in damage to the joints of the lower limbs and can increase the potential for swelling (edema) as blood pools in the legs. A cushioned surface reduces these risks by reducing the impact on joints and encouraging ongoing small muscle contractions that help to move blood back out of the legs.
Increases Standing Time - The ease with which the SmartMat can be shifted back and forth can encourage more frequent transitioning between sitting and standing. With the Sit-Stand SmartMat, there is no need to crawl underneath a desk to retrieve the mat before returning to a standing position. Rather, working from a standing position the chair can be simply moved aside and the mat retrieved from below the desk by a foot. And moving back to a seated position is just as simple, with the mat being slid back in the same fashion.
Reduces Risk of Back Injury - Since it is no longer necessary to bend down or reach under a desk to store or retrieve an anti-fatigue mat there is no risk of back injuries being incurred or aggravated.
Easily Moveable: The innovative Activation Pad that the SmartMat facilitates storage or retrieval of the mats without risk of injury.
Lightweight: The SmartMat is noticeably lighter than many other anti-fatigue mats while still providing a significant degree of cushioning. This reduction in weight further improves the ease of movement as facilitated by the patent-pending Activation Pad.
Breathable Surface: Unlike traditional rubber or foam anti-fatigue mats, the SmartMat features a breathable fibre surface. Those who wish to remove their footwear will find this a vast improvement over more commonly used materials as the tendency to stick to the surface is significantly reduced. Note that while it is a fibre surface it may not be comfortable against the skin.
Foot Wedge: The Foot Wedge included with the most of the Sit-Stand Smart Mat models can be used for extra cushioning or to encourage movement of the feet by creating a multilevel surface. It can be placed anywhere across the mat surface and can be repositioned easily with the feet.

Cleaning the Mat: Clean the underside of the mat regularly to remove dust and dirt, which reduces the mat's anti-slip properties. To clean, wipe the underside with warm water and/or a mild soap. Do not machine wash or fold.
Maintaining the Surface of the Mat: Stiletto heels are not recommended as these may damage the surface of the mat. Attempts to remove the Activation Pad will permanently damage the product.
